About This Place

Welcome to 16 Tons Cafe, a charming gem nestled in the heart of Eugene, Oregon. Located at 2864 Willamette St, this cozy cafe is more than just a place to grab a quick bite. It embodies a unique blend of community spirit and culinary creativity, making it a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike.

The name "16 Tons" pays homage to a classic song about the struggles of hardworking coal miners, reflecting the café's commitment to hearty, satisfying fare. As you step inside, you’ll find a warm atmosphere that invites you to linger, whether you're enjoying a leisurely breakfast or catching up with friends over coffee and crêpes.

Among the standout offerings, the Butte Sandwich deserves special mention. This delightful creation features two perfectly scrambled eggs, caramelized onion confit, housemade sriracha aioli, and melted cheddar, all nestled between toasted brioche buns—a true breakfast lover's dream at just US$10.90. For something lighter, the Veggie Break Sandwich brings together fresh avocado, tomato, greens, and a perfectly fried egg, creating a colorful and nourishing meal that won’t disappoint.

The cafe doesn’t stop at sandwiches; their omelets are equally commendable. The Bacon and Cheddar Omelet is a classic, with its rich flavors and fluffy texture, while the Pesto, Ham and Cheddar Omelet adds an herby twist, making each bite a flavorful experience worth savoring.

Adding to the charm, 16 Tons Cafe frequently features local live music, enhancing its vibrant ambiance. Sandra Moreno notes that while the coffee may not be the absolute best, it certainly does the trick, especially paired with the scrumptious crêpes that many patrons rave about. These sweet and savory options are particularly appealing, catering to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences, including gluten-free choices like their delightful buckwheat crêpes.

When I first visited 16 Tons Cafe, I was struck not only by the inviting decor and friendly staff but also by the palpable sense of community. As I sipped on a strong cup of house coffee, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to those who have come before me, sharing stories and laughter over a meal made with care.

Whether you choose to grab a casual meal or settle in for an afternoon with a friend, 16 Tons Cafe offers a welcoming escape from the hustle and bustle. I left feeling rejuvenated and eager to return, knowing that this cafe is not just a place to eat, but a community hub that nurtures connections and celebrates good food.

So, the next time you find yourself in Eugene, make sure to stop by 16 Tons Cafe—where delightful flavors and a friendly atmosphere abound. You might just find your new favorite spot!

Nice place to get a quick bite to eat/drink. They do some breakfast lunch and dinner items but are mostly a bar. Not the best coffee ever but it will do the trick. They sometimes have live music in the evenings!

16 tons Cafe is a cozy place where people bring their laptops during the day and sit around with friends, talking and eating crepes of all sorts. The house coffee is strong and the beer and wine flows easily. The cafe name refers to a song about a hardworking coal miner who's in debt to the company store. The first time I heard the song Tennessee Williams was singing it and my mom who worked in a factory for much too long was sitting next to me. See you there.

Nice little place nestled in by the other shops. I was very pleased to see gluten-free items on the menu including the buckwheat crepes! The indoor seating was a little cozy but when it is nice out the patio area looked like it would be awesome. Lots of beverage options beside the food. Cool to see the savory crepes as well as the sweet crepes.

We were here to hangout with our friends. Love the ambiance atmosphere, get a crepe, and coffee. Our friends got crepe, drink, and delicious bun with yolks!

Friendly staff, DELICIOUS crêpes, cool atmosphere with lots of outdoor seating. This place has become one of my favorite places to go when I’m in Eugene!

Very cute and cozy. I went in around 8:45am today and it wasn't very busy. I ordered the "Herbie Gies Bananas" crepe which had bananas, strawberry compote, and chocolate in it, and a vanilla lavender latte. One of the better cups of coffee I've had in awhile. The crepe had a good amount of toppings, a lot of powdered sugar but it was good.. The staff were really pleasant too, they got my food and coffee out to me really quick! It started to get busier by the time I left around 9:30am, but the noise level still stayed to a minimum. I would definitely go back to try their other food! :) it does share a parking lot with a lot of other places, so be prepared to walk just a bit( It is handicap accessible though.)

16 tons is a nice little cafe on the south side of Eugene. They sell coffee drink, have a food selection, as well as serve beer or cider. Sometimes they have live music. Outdoor seating is available. Staff is friendly and food s tasty. I enjoy the crepes they offer.
